ED of 2007 550i
Hello,
I'm a former BMW owner (a 1997 528i that I had purchased brand new from BMW of San Francisco in March of 1997). I have a couple of Mercedes and an Audi since and currently driving a CLK 55 AMG. I'm thinking of coming back to BMW (miss the handling, etc.)
Just so I understand ED correctly, let's say I wanted to ED a 2007 550i with the following equipment:
Base Wholsale Price: $49,510
Wholesale Options Price:
Steptronic: N/C Sport pkg: $2550 Premium Sound $1640 Cold Weather pkg $685 Navigation $1640 Comfort Access: $910 Fold Down Rear Seats $430 SIRIUS Radio $540 HD Radio $455 Destination $695
+ say $1000 for the dealer preparing the ED paperwork, etc.
I get a total of:
$60,055
Does that include everything? (outside of sales tax, reg, etc etc.) Any other fees not accounted for above?
Also if I decide to lease it, can I still take advantage of these lease rates:
36 mo/15k mi – Residual Value 59% of MSRP – .00225 Base Money Factor Rate
One other question: If my goal was to have the car in hand by December of this year, when should I start the process?
Order in July? Fly to Munich in October? Delivery in SF Bay Area in early December?
Thanks in advance for all your help...
Best, Ed

Based on my recent ED transaction, I think that you have a handle on things--you're starting with ED Wholesale and working up--that's the important thing. You included your destination so I don't believe that there are any other fees involved--assuming that you are not planning to drive more than 14 days in Europe (or 9 if dropping off in Italy). I leave on this Tuesday for my pickup!
I'm sorry that I can't help you with the lease information--that is beyond my comprehension!
My West coast dealer is counselling me to plan for 8 weeks from dropoff to delivery, so that there is minimal disappointment; I believe there is a thread where many people have contributed information on their timeline that might be worth perusing. BMW wants 3 months before pickup for your order (although I've heard that they can do it for less) so again your timeline sounds pretty spot-on.
It sounds as though you've spec'ed out a pretty sweet car.... I might suggest that you give some consideration to the Head's Up Display. I didn't think that I would be interested in it until I test drove a 550 with it--it is VERY cool! I especially think that it is a good buy since you're getting the Nav--Nav integrates with HUD and projects the driving instructions up on the windsheild in front of you and to me that will help a lot in being able to concentrate on getting to my destination without having to glance away to the Nav screen (although I guess there are spoken commands as well). Anyway, good luck with your plans.
Steve

| | Reply » ED of 2007 550i | a 59% residual is terrible my friend.
consider doing a 24 month lease (it comes out to be MUCH cheaper) and write the lease at 10k and buy more miles mid lease (its also cheaper).
my residual was 73%.
anyway, my car also had a cap cost of $60,xxx and my payment is $850/mo after cali tax with $0 down. i had to pay the damn GGT because its a stick
Abe
EDIT: your ED assumptions are correct
| | Reply » ED of 2007 550i | As of May, the residual dropped to 59% from 60% for 3 year/15k leases! However, for your timeframe, you still have to play the wait and see game as far as MFs/and Rs go for the car. Revils, I'd like to see your numbers to support your claims about getting a 2 year lease and buying more miles. Do we/you know how much it costs to buy more miles and how all that works? Also, look into MSDs and how this might impact a 2 yr vs. 3 yr lease. Interesting stuff. Look near the stop of the sticky'ed posts in the Ask A Dealer forum in regards to MSDs. Also, ed9, you will have an acquisition fee of anywhere from $625 to $825 added to your final cap cost for the lease. $625 is the minimum but BMWFS allows dealers to raise it a max of $200. Also, BMWFS allows dealers to raise the MF a max of 0.0004. If you are interested, I can point you to a great dealer out of state that I deal with all the time. I'm not sure any dealer in the BA can beat him but it will cost you a trip to Oregon and drive down I5 to bring your baby back home! PM me. You can lock your rates as far out as 60 days (90 days if timed correctly) but I would have my deal nailed down with my dealer a minimum of 2 months in advance but 3 might be better. I'm doing an ED on September 4 and while I've informed my dealer about the car and colors, I still need to get him my option list...I plan to firm it up by mid June with him. Your option list is darn close to mine. I am not sure about Comfort Access but I'd highly recommend HUD if you are getting NAV...BMW should just package the two together IMO. I'm also skipping the Prem Sound and just getting the Logic7--who needs a 6 disc changer anymore? I love the rear power sunshade (comes with manual ones for the rear door) since I have a 4 year old. You may skip this if you plan to tint but I don't plan to tint my windows as this can impact radar detectors, which you'll need in a 550i! I'm also on the fence about active steering but I will most likely skip it. There you go...PM if I can help you.
