bimmer newbie: which is better?
Hey All,
I'm looking to buy an older Bimmer as a daily driver and am looking for some advice on reliability and performance.
I'm looking for a '88-91 325i, an '89-90 535i or a '89-90 750i. The 325 is the cheapest, but none go over $4500. I also don't want to be nickel and dimed for random parts, as I'm a student with very little cash.
Which would you recommend for the money?
Also, does anyone know how bad the gas mileage is for the 750?
Thanks.

With that said, you might consider a super clean and well maintained E30 as possible. Stay away from 5 and 7 series that are that old. Even still, something super clean will come close and probably over what you want to spend. If well maintained, they can easily be a reliable daily driver, but you can also end up with a money pit.

Thanks. | No BMW will nickel and dime you - it will bleed you dry if you are a student.
Go for a Corolla/Civic type of car, then graduate and treat yourself to a BMW with a warranty!

Thanks. | Spend the money on the BMW, F-that honda civic crap. And when your car bombs on you, and you don't have the money to repair it, you don't have anyway to get to school, drop out for a semester. Work to to save up money to get the parts you need, you won't have to buy books, or school supplies while doing so, and that can go along way in buying you an oil change, a checkup, and various BMW parts. Don't worry why your college buddies inquire as to why you dropped out for a semester, you'll be comforted in knowing you don't have to do them any favors by driving them to a local pub. Also, think, your mom will love that your back home with her for a semester or two; they do miss their kids.
So go for it. This will be money well spend on one of the best educations you can have.
