We purchased from BMW dealer touch up paint giving parts man copy of the actual MSRP page showing "sterling gray" and he sold to us "472 sterlinggrau met." paint stick.
After applied and dried it is clearly not even close but actual black. Took car to body shops and they said BMW gave you black instead of sterling gray.
Has this happened to anyone? What can you do about it?

Has this happened to anyone? What can you do about it? | I ordered grey-green touch up paint and they sent the "right" own and it doesn't match either. More blue-green.
I guess you could touch up over the black with the sterling gray. It would stick out though. Other than that? I guess see what the body shop has to offer.

Also metallics might not match exactly due to differences in how wet the original coat was applied leading to differences in metallis look.

My car is being repaired right now @ Marcos Auto Body, and I had a conversation with them about paints.
According to them, the paint on your car and touch up paint won't always match. The touch up paint can't compensate for variables, such as slight fading of the color on your car.
He also made another good point; nothing says the paint you get from BMW is going to be an exact match to the paint that was put on your car when in the factory. The paint was obviously mixed at a different time, and he claims that very slight variations are not uncommon (but all it takes is a slight variation to cause a mis-match)
In the past, If I needed a touch up, I would go to a good bodyshop and have them match the paint for me on there computers, mix it up, and I was good to go.
