To Aero Or Not To Aero: That IS The Question.

I like that way the areo kit looks for the E60 (okay, I LOVE it) but I am not entirely sold on it. I know that I will get a lot of flack for this but I just think that it's kind of wannabee-ish. I know that when I drive my M3 and see a 325 or 330 with an M front bumper it looks to me like they are trying to drive an M3 without buying an M3. I think that the stock E60 is gorgeous and not sure whether the M aero kit is really worth it. After all, if I want the looks of the M5, I can always go out and buy one. Anyone else agree??

Disagree. I believe that the aero kit improves the front end of the car tremendously. I am neutral on the rear and sides.

There is no wannabeishness here at all. This a a BMW part added to a stock 550 at the VPC. It even has a separate BMW MSRP sticker for the aero kit so as far as I am concerned, it is no different from any other option.

Biggest reason why I got the M tech aero kit is b/c I hated the look of the stock front bumper. Blah....

There are different opinions of what consitutes a wannabe/poser. My opinion of a wannabe/poser is someone who slaps on a M5 badge either on the trunk or side grills. That is blatantly telling everyone "Hey, I have a M5" eventhough visual everyone knows it's anything but.

I am in agreement with Biff Trout that having the M tech aero kit is not at all pretending one has a M5. You will notice that the M5 front bumper has no fog light, but the M tech does. Also, the rear bumper of the M5 is nothing like the M tech. People who have the M tech aero kit appreciate the beauty of the overall M package.

I agree with Biff and Jiio. The M Aero Kit looks different than the M5's bumpers. I personally like the M Aero kit's front bumper much better than the M5's, tho I like the M5's rear much much more than the M Aero kit's.

Bottom line, just as long as you don't slap a M5 logo on, you're ok IMO.

Oh, and the answer to "The Question" is YES!

I had the same hesitation at first, but a guy next to me in garage has non-Aero front and his e60 (530) is just OK to look at.

I see pics of all these Aero kits in gallery and frankly, they change the entire look and feel of the e60.

I also think it depends on color; a Aero kit on dark color is very subtle while on light car really stands out.

Finally where I live, very few M5's, and as such, not a lot of people would know difference. I will have my 550 badge and even when I get my 166 19" wheels, I think it won't look like a M5 - even if I am the only person who knows what options I added to the car. At the end of the day it looks freaking beautiful to me.
