 Bad module or ground?

I just bought a 525i about 3 months ago and this is my first BMW and for the most part I really like this car but I have a few things I would like to get fixed.

I had a new stereo installed about a month ago. Shortly after the power would shut off now and again but it would always come back on. Then the next time it happened the stereo and the computer display on the dash both went dead but would come back on after a while. Now it is to the point that my stereo, power windows and power locks all go off when the stereo does. It seems like maybe a bad ground or a bad control module because when it works everything works fine so it is all or nothing. Also no fuses are blown.

I bought a manual and removed the rear seat and tried to check all of the connections which appear to be fine. Now with the seat off I can hear the first control module clicking away when nothing is working and it is silent when things are working. My first question is does it sound like that module is just dying a slow death? Or does it sound like maybe a ground issue?

A follow up question is if the module is bad is this part that I can repair myself?

Any help or direction is appreciated.
