I'm on the fence between a 530 and 550. This month the lease on the 550 dropped by $100/month while it went up on the 530 by about $40/month. Doing ED I can get a 550 with sport package for high $500's with no money down (except license fees and security deposit). So this month a 550 with sport is only $10/month more than a 530 sport and premium. But with gas prices getting so high that could make a huge difference.
What are you guys getting for gas mileage for the 550 and 530? I mainly drive in the city.

530i Engine Liter/type 3.0/inline-6
Fuel Consumption 2 Manual transmission [SMG] - City/Highway 20/30 [19/27] mpg Automatic transmission - City/Highway 21/29 mpg Fuel capacity 18.5 US gal
550i Engine Liter/type 4.8/V-8 Fuel Consumption 2 Manual Transmission [SMG] - City/Highway TBD [TBD] mpg Automatic Transmission - City/Highway TBD mpg Fuel capacity 18.5 US gal
Common sense would tell you that the inline -6 would get better gas mileage than the V8.

Assuming 1000 miles/month with gas at $3.25 and conservative mileage for 530 (19) and 550 (12), the difference would be $100/month.

BMW's web site doesn't have the gas mileage for the 550. Also the quoted mileage and actual real world mileage differ greatly. That's why I'm looking for real world mileage that you guys are getting. I know the 530 gets better mileage I'm just curious how much better?
Thanks in advance.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov
550i SMG: 16/22 mpg 550i 6AT: 17/25 mpg 550i 6MT: 15/23 mpg
Looks like the SMG and 6MT both get slapped with gas guzzler taxes, but the 6AT does not.

Look, if you can get a 550 for "high 500s" then go for it. Personally, I see no way that is possible, but if they give you that deal, GO FOR IT. Screw the mileage (which BTW will be about 14 around town and 25 on the highway with the AT.
