Is it possible to install the Navigation System in the 2004 530i. I bought one without it.
Thanks

Yes it's possible but it would probably cost upwards of $5k to do, not including installation, and you'd have to be an electrical engineer to do it.

Upgrading a non-NAV BMW to one with NAV is not for the timid or light of wallet! Believe it or not, you are better off buying another car with it factory-installed already. There are so much electronics on cars nowadays that even being an EE won't help...you need to be a {insert car brand here} EE!

I am talking about a different animal here, but there is a site (navplus.us) dedicated to retrofitting navigation to Audis. There seems to be a guy who gets the units from Europe and people reportedly get it working for less than it costs as a factory option. I would imagine that your installation time is not factored into the cost.

I've always felt the cost of what you pay for nav in the US is a ripoff. I bought a garmin windshield unit at Walmart for $200 this xmas and it works great. Sure, it isn't integrated, but when I'm in my own car I typically know where I'm going and can bring this unit with me for rental cars where I really need directions. It only has a black and white screen, but it does have voice directions and works quite well. It is the Garmin Streetpilot i2 if anyone is interested.

The Garmin units are phenomenal; however, having a 60K car with I-drive control unit, and then not getting navigation . . .doesn't make sense to me.
Yes, it's overpriced, but I think it's a necessary evil to get the factory unit on this type of car.
