4 bent rims, 2006 530i
Hi.. Im new to this site.
I have a 2006 BMW 530i with 6000 miles on it that I bought last fall. I bought the car off the showroom, it already had upgraded BMW low proifile wheels and tires.
Car is optioned with the Sport package as well.
Ok.. so now that ive had the car 5 months, the steering didnt seem right to me. I took it in this week and the dealer service dept tells me that "I" bent all 4 of my wheels and its $2200 to get new wheels for it and fix the problem.
Im like huh? I just drove the car normally.. didnt beat it or drive crazy.. and most of the time I drive like a old lady...
They tell me this is "road hazard" and BMW doesnt cover it.
I called BMW, and they were very nice in a not so nice way. They told me that because I chose a vehicle with the sport package AND I then added agressive wheels and tires that there was a good possibility this could happen.
I could MAYBE understand if 1 rim was bent but all 4?... The obvious question is did I buy a car to drive or just look at. If this is happening to me.. then it must be a common problem. Why are they selling wheels and tire combo's that cant handle the road? Its not like I am 4 wheeling in the car, I live in the bay area.
Dealer gave me a cheaper option but didnt "recommend it". They sent my wheels to some place than supposedly can fix them,, but no guarantee and that is about 600 bucks. Isnt it just likely that this will happen again unless I slam on the brakes and stop for every bump in the road?
Kind of disheartening, considering it was $63,000 out the door.

I am very familiar with the roads in the Bay Area (or most of California for that matter) and when I looked at BMW's disclaimer for the tire/wheel combination that comes with the Sports Package, the alarm bells went off I too "drive like an old lady" most of the time, but my work takes me in to and around the ports of Long Beach/L.A. and ZSP is just an accident waiting to happen. I chose not to get the ZSP.
One solution you might want to consider is to sell your car and go for an '07 European delivery instead. You would save about $10-12K AND have a brand new car. On the flip side you must fly to Munch to take delivery and that does cost money. Check out the ED forum on this board. Good luck to you -- let us know the outcome.

I've lived in the BA for the last 8 years and while I agree the roads aren't great, I haven't seen too many roads so bad that I would eventually bend all 4 of my rims. There has to be some responsibility on the driver for the condition of the tires/wheels. I can hardly believe that "driving like an old lady" would result in 4 damaged wheels. FYI, having the Sport's Package is what gives you the lower profile tires and suspension.

Actually, that is what sold me the car, it looked really awesome with the wheels. They are factory BMW wheels.
The other bummer was that I didnt ask for the original wheels and tires that were on the car as part of the sport package. I realized this about 1 week later. When I went back to the dealer and asked for these. they told me they could NOT locate them and OH well.. basically I am out.
Ive owned 25 cars in my life,, been in the banking side of the car biz for 20 years. I have had many performance cars, classic cars, luxury cars etc.. and never ever have I known of this problem. I guess I should have done more homework, now I feel like a fool. Eh such is life right?
