why are people unwilling to admit that the runflats are simply not the way to go when there is overwhelming evidence that they are a problem? i dont get it. tire noise, premature wear, rough ride, very expensive to replace. for what in return? high speed blowout protection and ability to drive on a flat. ok. i admit these are compelling attributes but how many high speed blowouts have you sustained in your driving career? i can tell you how many i have had. NONE. i like the idea of runflats and i do think that in the future they will be great. but not now.

Jspira poll in E90 forum shows a lot of people feel otherwise. I do.

Runflat Poll Thread

Feel like stirring the pot, huh? Oh, you know the RFT advocates will be coming out of the woodworks when they see this thread...

I'm indifferent. I've had both. I switched on over to conventional tires b/c of my rims. If the RFTs would've fit the OEM 166s, which are 19s, I would've used them.

I specifically did not order the sports package on my car because ZSP includes RFTs.

The answer to the question of blow-outs is: One (1). Funny little story here. I was an the 57 freeway in OC - morning counter commute direction cruising along at 80 MPH. There was a story on the radio from a field reported in Iraq and it included background noise of a helicopter. Story ends and within two minutes, I hear loud helicopter noise in real life. I put my nose on the steering wheel in an attempt to see this obviously low flying chopper. No chopper in sight... WTF, the steering is weird (still going 80 MPH) and I now realise that the "chopper sound" is my rear tire coming apart. Made it to the emergency lane no problem and changed the tire. As far as cutting over 4 lanes of traffic to get to the emergency lane, remember this: This happens all the time in L.A. (people cutting you off) nobody even noticed or -- just another day on the crazy L.A. freeways..

Man I agree. I ordered a 2007 550 sport with RF's and cna not wait to replace them. I have had them on Corvette's and now a BMW I would perfer non RF's anytime. The positives do not compensate for the negatives.

I have always run high end Michelin's, Goodyears, or Perelli's and have neve had a blow out in 30 years of driving .So for me they come off the car as soon as i need new tires.
