Automatic Vs. Manual Transmission, which one to choose?
Ok, if I was getting a 550i I'd definitely be getting a 6mt, no doubt. If I was getting a 3 series, I'd get a manual as well. The reason I'd choose a manual for those two is because to me they are so sporty.
However, I'm going to getting either a 525i or 530i and I'm considering a manual tranny, but I'm not sure. It might kind of seem out of place to have a manual on a 525i, or 530i...just because they are more luxury, and maybe not as sporty with the lesser engines on them.
What do you guys think?

Which do you think that YOU will prefer driving? Get that one

I recently upgraded from a lowly 1990 Toyota Pick-up (4 speed manual) to a 2006 Tacoma Double Cab Long Bed. It was only available with an Automatic. I'm finding that I LOVE it and don't miss shifting. Now, the BMW is clearly a different animal and I do have a 5-speed on the 2001 530i, and it is fun but.... If you want to do it with numbers, an automatic on the 6-bangers will cost you a grand and the SMG will cost you about 1300. The manual is free. However, the 550i is kind of opposite: Due to the GGT (gas guzzler tax), the manual and SMG cost you 1300 whilst the automatic is free. Hence, I'm going with the slushy on the 550i...it'll be the wife's car mostly and she has learned/put up with all my manual tranny's thorughout our lives together and deserves to relax a bit with the automatic. If resale is important to you, the auto's will sell faster than the manuals or SMGs. Lots of things to consider here. Good luck to you.

The brakes are bigger up front on the 330. The vehicle weights are about the same. The 3series I believe has a better weight distribution. The engine sits a little further towards the driver. If luxury and trunk space isn't an issue I would go with the 330i. I wanted the 330i, but the trunk space was smaller than a 2000 honda civic coupe's trunk. No room for the groceries once the stroller is in. Also you can get the 3 series without the idrive. Less crap to go wrong later.

Many people these days cannot even drive a manual. Step just does not do it for me, I loose the feel. Sure in heavy traffic manual can be a pain, but still.
Personally, IMHO, BMWs must be manual and have the sport package - that is what IT is all about. The ultimate driving machine...
