 Converting from Audi to BMW

Well, I've been driving a 2005.5 Audi S4 for the past few months, but I've been having a little bit of bad luck with it, so I 've started looking into buying a new car. I had a few questions, and I could use as much feedback as possible.

The first question is price: how much did you guys spend out the door when buying your car?

Also, I wasn't really sure whether or not I wanted to get the sport suspension either. The ride in my S4 is pretty stiff right now, and my wife hates riding in my car for long distances. Does the sport suspension ride pretty smooth or does every bump you hit in the road make you regret getting it?

Right now, I'm leaning towards either the 530xi or the 550. How is the gas mileage in the 550 by the way? My s4 is a gas guzzler and i average about 15 miles a gallon on a good day. I appreciate any and all feedback i get from all of you. I've read some pretty good things on this forum, so i hope you can help me make the best decision in getting the car i want for the price i want.

I'm curious of what kind of problems you were having? Are you wanting to stay with a convertible or coupe? If AWD is a big deal, the xi is agood choice. If not, maybe the M3, or 645ci. My 330Ci is RWD and I've not had any problems in snow. The ride is nice on the highway as well.

Since you live in Southern Cali I do not see any reason for you to go with an "xi" model. I guess your only other choice is the 550

I have the 545i and my gas mileage is better than 15 miles/gallon, I think. I don't drive it too much, its a garage queen

Price varies from person to person. Decked out my 545i was $65K MSRP (That is not my purchase price though). You need to get the sport suspension! BMWs always look better with the sport package.

Well, ultimately you need to visit a dealer and go for a ride in one. I think most BMWs are sports packaged equipped but I could be wrong.

BMW suspensions are touted for being firm but not harsh.

My 545i/SMG got 19/24 so not all bad. The 550i is a tad worse although the automatic provide the best fuel economy (and therefore avoides the dreaded Gas Guzzler Tax).

I have a 550 with Sport and I think the ride is excellent - not "lexus soft" but not railroad car either. The biggest issue is that the run flat tires (which have their good and bad - search the forum for details and opinions) that come with the sport package are relatively noisy over worn pavement. They aren't overly harsh IMHO but you should drive both sport/non-sport to decide.

Over the past 4000 miles I've averaged 19.5 mpg, and on a recent trip to the Oregon coast (160 miles round trip) up and down some hills, NEVER slower than 70 mph I averaged 25.5 mpg. So I feel pretty good!

btw, the V8 kicks butttt! You will love the 550!

I find the Sport Suspension not harsh at all. Changing the tires from RF to Michelin PS2s has improved both ride and handling. I have Sport Seats, having bought off the lot in December. The Sport Package now has Comfort Seats as standard. This makes for a very satisfactory combination.
