First, I will confess that I am anxious to receive my new 5 series (translated means impatient) and have been tracking the order on the BMW site carefully. The order showed up in the system quickly and the car was produced about eleven days after submission of the order. However, the system shows that the car has been parked in Dingolfing for over a week awaiting transportation. I'm wondering just how accurate the system is as it would seem that the car would be shipped to Bremenhaven in less than one week. I'm thinking that the system just hasn't been updated even though that would seem to go against German efficiency.
Does anyone have a sense of the BMW Order Tracking system's accuracy?

It's not accurate. It still shows my car at the VPC. I've been driving it since early November. Figure about a week to 10 days difference from real time.

The owners circle site is the least up to date way to track your car--it seems to be a week or so delayed. The best is the dealer, who has online access. Next best is calling BMW at 800-831-1117 and speaking to a customer relations rep. With your production number or VIN, they can provide you with current updates. You can also use the automated system by saying "vehicle production status" but this is a few days delayed.

Thereare some glitches in the system. My M5 is already at the dealership but the system is telling me my car is still at the port of exit awaiting a shipping-vessel. This glitch only applies to the phone-system. The online system is working ("car is at your dealership").
What's strange: The phone system already verified that the car was on the vessel ("in transit") so according to the phone-tracking, the vessel turned around and dropped my car in Germany..

Maybe "going crazy" is a more accurate translation

Thanks to all for the information. I did call the 800 number and found out that the car is sitting on the dock (of the Bay?) waiting for a boat to bring it over here. The sales guy told me that it would come in through New Jersey before shipment to the dealer. I guess that it's at least another month before it will be in Richmond.
