I'm wondering who came up with the nickname "Bimmer".... and around this way I hear it prounced "Beemer".

I believe it is an American thing so naturally everyone else has to comply.
I am from the UK and a BMW is either a 'BM' (Bee-Em) or a 'Beemer'. Like the rest of the English-speaking world BTW.
Apparently here in the US, a 'Beemer' is a bike and 'Bimmer' is a car.
I call mine a Beemer because I'm a rebel!

I've never heard Bimmer except on this board. Always heard them referred to as Beemers (in Europe).
Drives me nuts when I see posts chastising people for using Beemer and saying 'It's Bimmer'... yeah... ok...
I love my Beemer and it's never gonna be called a Bimmer

Yep.. It's Beemer here in Boston (prounced "Beemah"). Where did the nickname come from???

Bikes were first (after airplanes of course) and the bike jockeys called them Beamers or Beemers. Bikes and Cars are not the same - so they call cars Bimmers....unless you refer to your car as a motorcycle.....you rebel....

So I may be missing something but either way they're both pronounced the same way right? And it's whether it's a car or motorcycle (or geographical location potentially) that determines how it's spelled?
