Sorry for asking what might seem like a stupid question but 3 people at the dealer didn't have the answer.
I know what adaptive xenons are and what they do.

Adaptive brake lights are brake lights that change their display depending on how hard the driver is braking. Under hard braking conditions, they display more/brighter light in order to warn the driver behind.

Do you mean Brake Force Display ? If so under normal braking the brake lamps and center brake lamps light up. Forceful braking or braking with ABS: the illuminated area of the rear brake lamps also increase. page 82 Owners manual

There is a web site that explains all of these things using mpeg files. Adaptive brake lights are one of the files.
