Sunroof rattle
Driving home from work yeterday I heard a rattling noise, like metal clanging with metal. I turned off the radio and discovered that the noise was coming from the overhead area where the sunroof and light switches are. My sunroof was open in the venting position. When I tapped that area or hit a bump in the road, it did it again. When I closed the sunroof or opened it fully, the rattle would be gone. The thing that kills me is that this rattle is intermittent----it comes and goes. I can make it stop for a while when I open and close the sunroof, and it only happens in the venting position. My fear is that if I make an appointment to go to the dealer, I won't be able to duplicate the problem. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Thank you. | I have the same irritating problem with my car... intermittent rattling and it stops when I open and close the sunroof. Only difference is that mine only rattles when it's closed. Nothing major but irritating. I just brought my car in to check the Active Steering, and I was so focused on that problem that I forgot to mention the rattle. I read some reviews on the E60's (can't remember which magazine), and the main complaint was inside rattling noises. Let me know if you get the problem fixed. I'll live with mine until I bring it in for the next scheduled maintenance service.
