Charge to shut off daytime running lights??!!

I was at my dealer trying to get them to align the car correctly and straighten the steering wheel on my 550i . . .(look at the other threads to see my frustration)

I also wanted them to turn off the daytime running lights which they never gave me the option of doing upon delivery. Now they want me to pay a 1/2 hr labor ($55) to deactivate them. I chose to wait on this as the so-called alignment took over 2 hours.

My dealer is saying even if I would have chosen to deactivate them at delivery they would have charged me $55. It's not the money that bugs me, but the principal of it... this is a personalized setting that I should've been given the option at delivery to deactivate. My brother had a 323i years ago, and they gave him a bunch of options and settings that he had to choose before delivery at no cost.

I think they are BSing me that they need to charge for this item, and I definitely think they are lying about charging me at delivery to do so.

Anybody out there come across the same issue . . .are dealers really charging for something like this?

Tell them that you will be calling BMWNA if they do not do this for you. You are right, this should have been an option to do so, given to you by your SA.

My dealer does this for free to those it deems do not keep switching back and forth and taking advantage of it.

At the very least, you can tell them, someone who pays enough $$$ to purchase a 550i could get this taken care of without being nickled-and-dimed.

I once used the line, "If I had wanted this much trouble, I would have bought a Ford!"

Everything got taken care of...hahaha...

Good luck! Let us know what happens!

Your CA should have given you a BMW Car & Key Memory Customer Selection Form to fill out before delivery. Most dealers do charge you to either to turn on or off if you change your mind after you take delivery. What dealer are you using? Good luck
cheers

LEAVE THEM ON! Daytime running lights are there for your safety, enabling oncoming drivers to see you better. In Canada, since 1990, by law, daytime running lights must be installed on all new cars, and the US should do the same. It's all about making our roads safer, and I for one am happy that other drivers can see me better.

What is this? I didn't see one at or before delivery. I wonder what options I have???

Also, daytime running lights? I don't have that either. Sounds cool.

DRLs were created for European drivers who frequented foggy areas or the multitude of tunnels that exist over there.

On long open American/Canadian roads, they are useless if drivers around you have their eyes open (debatable point, I know...). Honestly, if you can't see a car coming your way during the day unless it has DRLs, then you should be off the road.
