I'm getting Bimmer fever. While I wait for my 2007 550i to arrive April 1st or thereabouts I'm thinking of getting a 530ixi wagon for the bad weather and etended travel. Not much commentary on these pages. Specifically I would like to know:
1) How is the general size of the cargo hatch for traveling. We tend to bring lots of stuff on our golf trips and are currently using a Pacifica for this purpose which is realtively huge. The 530xi seems a bit small to me but probably is bigger than the Audi A6 wagon.
2) Can a trailer hitch be attached to the 530xi. I like to use a bumper hitch bike carrier.
Any other comments appreciated.

I dunno about #2, but have you seen a 530xiT in person? How many people do you bring with you on your golf trips, and how far do you travel? If you're just going in town and bringing 3-4 passengers, I'd think 4 golf bags would easily fit in the cargo area. If it's two of you and you're road tripping for a few hours, the rear seats fold down and should easily accommodate clubs and road trip supplies plus luggage. I think even a 325xiT would suit for the latter purpose.

I just purchased a bath tub,60" x 30', and it fit w/ the rear seats folded down. Look at the pics below so you'll have a general idea. The opening of the wagon measures approx 45" wide x 36' high x 72" deep (w/ rear seats down). As far as the trailer hitch I haven't seen one either but look on this site for updates for a 5Series hitch, http://www.hitch-web.com/vyr.asp?OID=8.

Plenty of cargo room and much more usable than my X3 due to the shape and the absence of wheelwell intrusion. I've taken it on a 2000 mile trip with three other adults and all of our luggage for a week. We had plenty of room for everything plus a bunch of stuff my wife bought while we were gone.
As for the trailer hitch, you might have a problem due to the rear self-leveling air suspension. Do a search and you'll find some threads which have referred to it in the past.
