BMW Alignment Techs: Lack of on-center feel, Help!

I've had my 550i now for 2 weeks, and I love it.

But when I drive on the highway, it doesn't seem to have any weight on center so that it stays the course with my hands off the wheel. Is it just me, or do others out there constantly feel like they have to dial in small corrections to keep the car straight.

My steering wheel is a click tilted to the right when the wheels are straight. Maybe it's my perception from that. All I know is that it's irritating as hell since the car should have been checked for this stuff upon delivery. Gotta get it straightened.

Nope, I do not have active steering, but I wish I did.

I'm proud to say that I am confident that my alignment is correct. With respect to the steering wheel, it's interesting because sometimes I feel it is a slight hair to the right and sometimes I think it's perfect. When I say a slight hair, I mean at the 12:02 position at worst. Therefore, I don't know if it's the wheel or something else such as the crown on the road.

Actually, I'm starting to think that the crown on the road has a substantial impact on the suspension and tracking of the car. Maybe it's the runflats, maybe it's the suspension calibration, but whatever it is I venture to think that road irregularities have an impact on what we are experiencing. I've gone on straight roads and held the wheel straight and been satisfied that the steering wheel is aligned properly. However, those straight roads are few and far between.

No active steering here. My alignment has been corrected....However, with the alignment now correct it has highlighted another steering wheel issue not alignment related.

My wheel is canted to the left or not parallel to the driver position. In other words with my hands in the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions on the wheel my 3 o'clock hand is closer to me and my 9 o'clock hand is farther away from me.

This is hard to put into words that you can picture in your minds.

I am taking some pics later today, hopefully you can see it but I'm thinking it is something you need to be sitting in the seat to notice.

I've has my 530 xi for almost five months now and I feel the same way----always feeling that the steering wheel is not exactly dead center when I am going straight. Part of me thinks that it may be a combination of the crown in these New York city roads coupled with the 18" low profile tires. I don't know if I will ever bother with the dealer on this issue. The car has been great, athough if I were to do it over again I would probably opt for the 550.

Kaptaingus,

Why would you opt for the 550 ?

Going out on a limb here but, maybe, power?

POWER. The only reason I got the 530 was because of the x-drive. In retrospect, I thing that I would now take the power over the all wheel drive (since the wheather is nice). You know, "the grass is always greener on the other side"
