I've had my 550i now for 2 weeks, and I love it.
But when I drive on the highway, it doesn't seem to have any weight on center so that it stays the course with my hands off the wheel. Is it just me, or do others out there constantly feel like they have to dial in small corrections to keep the car straight.
My steering wheel is a click tilted to the right when the wheels are straight. Maybe it's my perception from that. All I know is that it's irritating as hell since the car should have been checked for this stuff upon delivery. Gotta get it straightened.

SDBrandon,
Do you know what your dealer did? My dealer will look at me like I have 5 heads if I tell him I read online that there is a "simple fix" to fix this.
Thanks a ton!

ACE88:
With respect to the wheel being slightly off-center, that is a result of a lack of attention on dealer prep. Usually a dealer can simply make adjustments to the wheel to get it straight.
With respect to the car's lack of ability to track straight without correction, that could be a number of things: alignment, overinflated tires, road imperfections.
I will definitely let you know what my dealer does because it's driving me nuts.
Also, I think when it comes to steering feel ... it could be a function of the non-active steering. I drove the car with active steering, and loved the feel much better than the standard steering. However, it was difficult to find an active steering car with the other options that I wanted . . and it's damn expensive.
I'll report back.

Quote: | I've has my 530 xi for almost five months now and I feel the same way----always feeling that the steering wheel is not exactly dead center when I am going straight. Part of me thinks that it may be a combination of the crown in these New York city roads coupled with the 18" low profile tires. I don't know if I will ever bother with the dealer on this issue. The car has been great, athough if I were to do it over again I would probably opt for the 550. | My wife, parents, and in-laws thought I was insane and juvenile for choosing to buy a car with rear wheel drive when an awd alternative was available. I said hell with everyone, and I need the power!!
. . .now I got to find some snow tire . . .lol

Thanks a ton! | I believe it was an Active steering adjustment. I know they did not touch the front wheels.

There is definitely something that needs adjusting. I have an 06 550 with 5000 miles, and my steering is dead center, I even show off to people in the car by driving on the highway with no hands on the steering. Go get it checked out, it doesnt sound like something the dealer will have a hard time fixing.
