BMW Alignment Techs: Lack of on-center feel, Help!

I've had my 550i now for 2 weeks, and I love it.

But when I drive on the highway, it doesn't seem to have any weight on center so that it stays the course with my hands off the wheel. Is it just me, or do others out there constantly feel like they have to dial in small corrections to keep the car straight.

My steering wheel is a click tilted to the right when the wheels are straight. Maybe it's my perception from that. All I know is that it's irritating as hell since the car should have been checked for this stuff upon delivery. Gotta get it straightened.

I've has my 530 xi for almost five months now and I feel the same way----always feeling that the steering wheel is not exactly dead center when I am going straight. Part of me thinks that it may be a combination of the crown in these New York city roads coupled with the 18" low profile tires. I don't know if I will ever bother with the dealer on this issue. The car has been great, athough if I were to do it over again I would probably opt for the 550.

Do you have active steering? Also, you could be noticing tramlining...

Ya, combination of bad conditions (crown and ruts) coupled with low profile tires and wide wheels does do interesting things to handling. Then again, it is not too much trouble to go have the alignment, suspension, and tires checked just to be sure. One pothole or curb can ruin a tire and/or wheel.

No worries. There is a simple adjustment the dealer can do to straighten the wheel and correct this issue. Same thing occured on my 6.

Hi Fantastic Five,
I just bought a new 2006 550i Yesterday 3/21/06 and have 71 miles on it. What you describe is amazing!! Mine does exactly the same thing. Wheel slightly tilted or turned to the right with constant minor corrections or twitches to the left.

Please PM me should you find a cure. I will as well should I.

Thanks
