Missing my M3 has relieved my wallet of the purchase price of a 1987 325i convertible with 137,000 miles. New top, clutch, brakes, reasonable maintenance history.
Everything but A/C works. 12 disc CD changer and black bottlecaps which will be replaced with a more conservative set of factory wheels.
Black on Black with zero rust!!!
Plans: see if I can upgrade the suspension with Bilsteins, timing belt, restore the leather
Pictures coming soon!

Excellent Choice! I'm looking for one as well, do you mind disclosing the purchase price or how much the owner was asking.
Pics ASAP

I also picked up an '87 325i convertible late last year and have been fixing it up.
'87 325ic with 127K miles, body and top in good shape but needs new paint and seat covers = $2,600
moved parts from my banged up E30 sedan to the "new" ragtop Dinan springs and Bilstein shocks. brake pads and rotors set of almost new 205/60R14 Michellans Stereo cassetter, cd changer, 4 channel amp and subwoofer (Nakamichi,a/d/s, bazooka) fog lamps
Found out that covertible springs are different than sedan spring due to heavier top. So new set of springs = $450
New shock for keeping trunk lid up = $70
found used trunk-top brake lamp lense for $10
High performance ECU chip = $250
New high performance spark plug wires = $120 www.bavauto.com
New plugs, misc. tune up parts, timing belt, hoses and belts ~ $150 (parts only)
Did the "hot soak" ~ $3 (bottle of fuel injector cleaner with techron)
replaced transmission and gear box fluid with Red Line fluid ~ $50
repainted car = $1200 (parts and labor)
reupholstered front and back seats with leather covers = $1000 (parts and labor)
Driving up Hwy 1 from Santa Cruz to Half Moon Bay on a nice sunny day = priceless

I'm getting there. Just got the car back yesterday....Full engine inspection including new plugs, timing belt, water pump, flex disk, OEM exhaust at aftermarket price.
Next month, new Bilstein HD's all around and new control arms. The following month, new top front seal and maybe tires. And that will be it.
Drives like a dream! 22-25 mpg so far.
