Just turned in my '03 540 Sport. The 550 is quicker and more comfortable. The handling is incredible compared to other cars (I also have an '04 Z06, I'm not a stranger to a spirited drive). I love the active steering. I do have a few non performance related complaints.
Navigation - WAY behind the technology that's available. No night mode, you can't enter a phone number to find location, and you loose street names when you're in 3D mode.
Comfort Access - I have to press the button 2 times to shut the stereo off.
Head Lights - I want the ngel Eyes to be my DRL's, and turn on/off automatically.
Lazy Man Seat - Not a technical term, but why doesn't the seat move back when the car is shut off to make it easier to get out?

Is your steering wheel centered when you are driving straight or is it slightly turned to the right?
Thx

I too will turning in a 540i Sport for a soon to arrive 2007 550i Sport with most options. I found the difference in acceleration and handling to be outright intoxicating. The 550i is the best legal cure for the blues or whatever ails you. It truly is incredible. I elected to not order AS as I wanted linear steering. I hope I don't regret this decision down the road.

Yes, the NAV on this car is terrible. It does note compare to the Lexus and Acura products. I hope BMW fixes this some day.
With the comfort access, you need to press the button twice ONLY if you are not locking the car. You can press it once, get out and lock the car and all will shut down. If you are not locking the car (like in your garage), then yes, you do need to press it twice. I've just gotten in the habit of pressing it twice - I love this option.
I also agree with you on the active steering - just amazing.

But for some reason, Nissan, BMW, Infiniti, Audi, Porsche, etc. a lot of other makes use NavTeq. I can only guess it is the low cost alternative to building one yourself. My friend's Nissan 350Z has the same type of Nav issues. Why does NavTeq have such a foothold in the auto industry if it is rated the lowest? According to the latest Roundel, Acura is rated number 1 for the Nav.
