 550i Breakin Questions

Thanks to those that helped with the 545i problems which have been solved by a new 550i thanks to BMW Seattle and BMW NA.
My questions are:
Breakin is at 1200 miles but does not call for oil change at that time. No reason not to change oil, right?
Most breakin in period on previous performance cars were 500 Miles and required an oil change? Why is BMW's so long?
RPM restriction is 4500. Most previous cars had similar restritions but they were qualified by "sustained operation" at or above xxxx RPM. Is this true for BMW?
Thanks in advance.

Some say to be sure the vary speed (RPMs), rather than sustained driving at on RPM range. Others say to drive it like you stole it from day-one. The lengthy time to oil change is a function of using synthetic oil, which does not break down like non-synthetic oil. It also allows BMW to offer free scheduled maintenance for 4 years. This likely translates to one oil change a year. Not a huge outlay for some excellent PR.

The head shop mechanic at my dealer told me that BMW would not recommend such long oil change intervals, if they thought it would end up costing them huge on warranty issues.

You can draw your own conclusions from these and many other comments available in this and other forums.
