I drove the 2006 M5 today, WOW what a car

Unlike my bad experience driving a 2004 530 with sports package a few months ago, the M5 was a completely different experience.
I would start with the seats, it had GREAT seats, not as big as the 7 series, however just as comfortable.
The features were amazing, like on the 7 series. The leather on the dash is beautiful and the Suade on the ceiling just does it, the car felt solid and luxurious.
From the outside the car looks innocent to the unknowing eye, my friend who came with me to look at a 6 series asked me why would anyone buy such a small car, what is so special about it? the sales person smiled and said "lets go for a test drive" it was a slow day at the dealership for him and he needed the break so he took us.
MAN this car is a monster, I love the noise that comes out of this beast, then the active support engages when we turn.
I loved the drive, as a conclusion I have completely changed my opinion about the 5 series, perhaps what I did not like about the 530 was the poor seats the dealer bought.... the comfort seats in the 5 series brings it to a much higher level of a car.
I recommend to all 5 series buyers BUY the comfort seats, from what I understand the new 2007 sports package has it standard.

The dealer had 2 of them, they were both used with 2000 miles, he was asking 100K for the car.
What I find strange is that every dealer I go to has a couple used ones. I think that many bought this car as an investment to resell and are stuck with it, I expect the car to come down in price significantly in the next 6 months I do not play the sticker plus games.... soon it will sell under sticker, they have been sitting on this car for 3 months now according to the dealer.

I think people in general are avoiding them given the issues posted on the M5 board. M5/M6 is not for the faint at heart.

I apologize if I am being dunce... While reading a few of your sentences I wasn't sure of a few things. Was the comment from your friend who went with you to look at the 6er state that the M5 is such a small car? Or was he commenting on the 6er being such a small car? It is is the former, he must think the M3 is tiny...? Eitherway, this is not a knock to my observations while reading. It's more to understand your feedback on the M5; I was a litle confused.

I too drove the M5 and thought with its suttle looks one would be surprised as to how that baby responds when you turn on the 500 Sport Mode and dial up the M settings to the fastest shift mode (7).

You getting one? Personally I am going to pass.

I have turned down 3 or 4 of them already since December and have another chance at one in a month if I wanted it. Although none have lasted more than a day or so at my dealer and they have been getting mid $90s for them. I am surprised how easy one would be to come by.

For size comparison to the 7, go to http://www.bmwusa.com/Vehicles/5/550iSedan/compare.htm - you can see that the differences are an inch or two here and there - not as drastic as your friend might think when looking at the two cars. The difference in weight however is substantial, giving the 5 a sportier feel. Add 500 more pounds even for an Li, if you want the xtra space for your passengers.

Now if you compare it to a 760, then we have some sport - something capable of dragging that extra 1500 lbs or so around effortlessly. A 760 would make a very nice alternative to an M5 - if you are really picking among the ultimate driving machines. Otherwise a loaded 550i is about as nice as a loaded 750i - and about the same price, give or take a couple $k, just 20% lighter - probably why they call it a Sports Sedan.
