Does anyone know if European models have a rear fog light ? If yes, can it be activated / connected on US models ? Thanks

Speaking for the E39, it can be modified for the rear fog light option but you need to pick up a few parts like the right dial for the headlight switch and a bezel indicating the rear fog. Next, you need to either punch out the knock-out in the rear light housing to accept another bulb or purchase the rear light housing that is already setup with the rear fog bulb. You also need to add an additional wire to the connector on the wiring harness for the rear light housing per side. I'm betting the procedure is somewhat similar for the E60. Can someone back me up?

Yes, euro models have a rear foglight. However I think it's too big of a pain to attempt something like that, since you'd have to wire a switch into the dash to turn it on/off also. Just spend the money on the euro-spec rear reflectors which make it look much better.

Thanks for the information. I plan to add the rear reflectors when my car arrives after the ED in Munich on May 17. I installed a Hella Rear Fog Light on my '83 & '95, but don't want to hang a light on the back of the new one.

Someone with and E60, take a snapshot or two of their tailight from inside the trunk so we can see the connector. I bet there is an empty position that is meant for the rear fog light option. One wire per side will need strung through the cabin to the light switch. The light switch will most likely need replaced with another one that has an extra position on it. On the E39, the rear fog light switch was a temporary contact type of one. In other words, it was exactly like the normal US light switch (no rear fog) except that you could turn the dial one extra position--it was a momentary contact to turn the rear fogs on. So when you turned the car off, the rear fogs where off and when you turned the car on, you have to reactivate the rear fogs. I'm betting something similar exists for the E60.
