what do you guys think of the sports package. Should I get it. Does it make the ride much more stiff. Is handling much better.

Its is great. The ride is stiffer, but not uncomfortable. The handling is superb.

The active roll stabilization makes it worth every penny. The ride issues are primarily with the run-flats. Switch those out and it rides very nice (even with the runflats it is not bad).

Man you will kick yourself if you dont get the sport package for the 550. It is never harsh and handles so good. Sport package is why other car companies can never duplicate a BMW feel and smoothness into one package, it is the black art of BMW. Not only that the sport package now comes with comfort seats as standard as well as new steering wheel. I would never buy any BMW without sport package and I have never complained about any rough ride from these packages. Resale will be harder to down the road people will want sports package cars over regular suspension.

BWWs, The Ultimate Driving Machines, are all about "sport". Yet I am puzzled that more than half the BMWs I see are sans-sport package. Why?
I would never get one without it. But again, I am in the sunny South.

The sport package is the reason to get this car. The rims and tires compliment the look perfectly, and the handling is superb. The ride is firm, but not harsh because of the structural integrity of the car. If you are that worried abou the ride quality maybe you should be looking at another car . . .like an Audi A6 4.2
I drove every possible competitor and there is not a single car out there that does everything . . .except the 550i with sport package. I simply love it.
