I have noticed after only 10,000 miles my E90's windshield is very prone to pitting. I have several small scrapes/chips. I have never had this issue with any of my cars in the past (non-BMW). I have noticed several E90 owners on this board reporting their windshields have cracked. I started to research.

Its not only the E90. The E46 before it had very soft glass in the windshield too.
In the span of only 3~4 years the windshield on my E46 was pretty badly pitted and eventually was repalced after taking a rock hit which left a "spider" that prevented passing an annual inspection.
My insurance company replaced the windshield with an aftermarket one which appeared to be much harder. After an additional 3+ years in even worse driving conditions the new glass had far less damage than the EOM.

Thanks for calling attention to this. I have an aftermarket windshield, and I was thinking about replacing it with OEM for vanity's sake. Now, I'll stick with the aftermarket one until it breaks.

What are sources for the lowest aftermarket prices ? Either just glass or installed?

I had a toyota before the BMW, not a single mark in the windshield after driving for 6 years. I've had the e46 for 2 years and I've got two pitts already. Hopefully, they're small enough to not affect my EOL.

I've heard that BMW (and other German cars) use "German" or "euro" glass that is softer so it doesn't crack as easily as "US" glass. As a result it pits more than a harder US windshield.
