 Anti-trap warning on start-up

Just got my 06 550i on Saturday, and now, I have my first question . . . my car gives me the Anti-trap warning signal whenever I start it . . .I know that the anti-trap keeps the window or sunroof from closing on someone . . so it's not a hugely important function ... but is there anyway to stop the signal from coming on . . .is it a malfunction?

It could be a malfunction or possibly the windows & sunroof for some reason need to be resynchronized. Check the manual for the procedure for this. If this does not work the dealer is your next resort. I doubt it is something major, but one never knows. It should not stop you from driving your wonderful new arrival.

I'll take a look at my owners' manual . . .and see what happens . . . what is the concept behind resychronization?

Thanks . . .

IF power has been removed from the battery, as it probably is in shipping, the windows and sunroof need to be resynchronized to know where fully closed position is. I think all that is involved is opening and closing the windows/sunroof once. Perhaps fully and then fully closing each window. My manual is in the car or I would dash out and look it up for you.

I just looked in the "on-Line manual. It says that "initialization" of the sunroof after power interruption is something the dealer has to do. There is no mention of this being required for the windows. They do talk about deactivating Anti-trap by holding window switch past its detent for more than 4 seconds. No mention of how to re-activate, but I assume this should happen automatically upon re-starting the car/ignition.

Probably all that's needed is to initialize the windows and sunroof, although at one point I had to get my drivers door motor replaced.

To initialize the windows, press hand hold the window button until it's all the way open, and hold for another 5 seconds. Then press and hold button until window is all the way closed, and hold for 5 seconds. Do all 4 windows.

Sunroof initialization is a bit more involved--here's instructions:
