Who's driven a AMG? What do you think?

I got to drive a new C55 AMG today. And WOW! Talk about driving pleasure. Now please don't crucify, I know a lot of people don't like AMG's because of the so called "slushbox", but if you have ever driven one I would like your opinion. It's a lot quicker than my M coupe. I personally don't mind driving a auto when it has ridiculous amounts of torque (510 lb-ft). I don't think I have ever had so much fun driving any car. Shifts are smooth and fast, 0-60 is supposedly around 4.5!! And it feels quicker that that.

I would think if someone was looking for a highway cruiser this car is ideal. Here in Florida that are not many twisty canyon roads, or any twisty roads for that matter. I feel like my M coupe is wasted on the highway and that I don't get to experience it's true assets.

So.......besides the "slushbox" is there any reason more M3 drivers don't go the AMG route? Who has driven a AMG and what did you think?

The AMG C55 is nearly the same price as the M3, so that would not be a reason.

Please don't flame me, BUT after driving it today it just got me thinking to myself "This thing is freaking awesome!" 510lb-ft of

Looks like less than 400 ft-lbs of torque.

The only Benz I enjoy driving is the SL55. On a gorgeous day, with the top down.

My mistake. I guess I was looking at the E55 when I got that no. Although 379lb-ft is still an awful amount of torque.

I'm all over it.

I need an auto for the daily commute, plus the 4-doors for clients. The "speed shift" works awesome IMHO. Even here in Benz/BMW soaked So Calif. the C55 is still fairly rare. I also like the stealth aspect - everyone thinks its a 230 until they see the quad pipes as you blow by.
As I get older - I have less tolerance for the M3 (especially when I hear Nick ^ talk.... ). Years ago, the M3 would have been the wet dream, but now that I'm an old fogie I think the C55 suits me better.

MB was running a lease special on 05 C55's. $679/mo, $4474 out of pocket, 10k a year for 39 months with a money factor of .00125. This is for a $57500 car with lighting and premium package (no NAV). I think it eneded at the end of August, and I think all the 05's are gone.

I've driven both an E55 and an S55.

I wouldn't kick either of them outta bed for eatin' crackers.
