Hi all I just picked up my brand new E60. Until now I was not able to find a switched power cable?!?   I prefer to connect to one in the glove compartment area.  Thanks in advance for your help  Kind regards Steath1 |

Hmmm...On US cars, there's a 12v power outlet just behind the glovebox on the underside of the dashboard.

I prefer to connect to one in the glove compartment area. | When I had my XM radio installed, the audio guy couldn't find a switched circuit either...he said the ignition wasn't even switched. I went back to my dealer and he took about 5 minutes to change something which made the cig lighter switched. No problems since then.

Thanks for the responses, but my cigarette lighter is providing 12v only when the engine is running. I want switched power just after the contact has been switched on. There is no power outlet elsewhere in the European version of the E60. 
So I guess I have to visit the dealer again

It isn't just the European versions. I have a US delivered '06 E60. I only have power in any of the four interior outlets when the engine is running. This is very inconvenient for running things like GPS or XM radio. This is also contrary to what the manual says. You obviously don't want the engine on just to access a radio.
Can the dealer do something?

It may be horribly inconvenient but those folks installing radar detectors near the rearview mirror are tapping the green/yellow stripe wire in the wiring harness for the map lights. Pop the lights and the other piece next to it out and start untaping. That wire is switched.
