MY07 530 or 550
Members of the Forum, As time gets closer for me to commit and have my CA to submit my purchase order, I keep asking myself if I should get the 530 or the 550. Both vehicles are very nice; however, I am wondering if buying a 550 as my first BMW is a wise choice. Should I start low and work my way up to the 550. Living in Germany, I can use the power of the 550 on the autobahn , but will I be able to use that type of power when I relocate back to Texas? Is the 530 all the power I will need and or be able to use in Texas? Right now I have a little time to make a decision before I have to place the order since I asked for a 1 October pick up date. As you can see by the signature block I am leaning towards the 550 since I got a deal of 59K for the car. Any suggestions and advice you guys and gals can give would be a big help. | | Reply » MY07 530 or 550 | Quote: Members of the Forum,

I'd have no problem buying an M5 as my first BMW if I could afford it. Besides, you'll definitely be able to use the power living in Texas.

The difference among those motors is not felt at just 100+ mph. It's felt thoughout the power band. You will feel the difference whether you drive in inner city traffic or out on long stretches of open road. In fact, I think that it makes NO difference at 90 mph with cruise control on (other than the 8 cyl pulling fewer rpm's) . . . until you hit the throttle

Also keep in mind that the 550i price premium is not just for the engine, because the base 550i includes items that are optional on the 530i. And the military pricing you're getting looks like a great deal.
Plus you've already got your sig set up!
