Ultimate Driving Machine? Ha! This is driving nirvana.
Interesting thread, that 'Vette vs. BMW thing. But if all we are talking about is speed and handling, you need to consider the following car.
I read about it in a summer edition of Evo. It absolutely kills anything BMW or Porsche has. Evo raced it against the new M6, it wasn't even close. I've never seen such wild enthusiasm from the magazines that have reviewed it. And the car costs less than $50k USD.
After seeing the video, I feel like my 645 is a shopping cart. Which is ironic, because Ariel Atom looks like a shopping cart.

Groceries, and trunk space? You guys are joking, right? You mean to tell me the lengthy thread about which car is better, BMW or 'Vette, was really about groceries and trunk space.
I drive the Ultimate Driving Machine for groceries and trunk space.
Uh, yeah.... Car Brand Nutheads are weird!! Show them a car that's can clearly beat their brand, and they stop talking about acceleration and handling, and start talking about groceries and trunk space, even tag price.
Did you guys watch the video or even look at what the Ariel Atom can do?
0mph-100mph-0mph in 10.88 seconds, 0-100mph in 6.8 seconds. These numbers are just phenomenal. And the dang car is super cheap, which makes the car just mind boggling.
If you insist on having your groceries, there's a second seat. You can put them in there. The car also has a compartment good for about 4-5 oranges.
You should really be complaing to Munich about how boring their cars are after seeing that video. I don't think I could ever have that much fun in my 645, and no, you can't have my 6.

The thing is, I do not doubt the fantastic performance of this "thing". But you are not comparing apples. The BMW is a car. With 4 seats, trunk, roof, side panels, noise isolation, etc. etc. etc. So there is added weight. Suspension is tuned to performance AND comfort. So its is tuned to be a SEDAN that is very sporty.
The Ariel is just performance. You can not compare the two. You can compare it more to a motorcycle with 4 wheels then to a sedan. But better yet, compare more to a Lotus Elise or to a striped down Indy Car. How can you even start to compare the two???
BMW has their balance between sport and comfort in luxury, and that is what they are always trying to do, even with the M cars. And they do that better than any other manufacturer in the world.
They don't try to be that thing the Atom Ariel is. So the comparison is not logical.
Would you agree to that? Or at least do you see my point of view?
