I got a 2004 530i loaner and I hate it Shame on BMW

I got a 2004 530i loaner for a week with sports package and navigation and it is a complete disappointment, it is uncomfortable and small, it has an extremely uncomfortable seat, it rattles like a Ford, has O.K power for a V 6, handles great, but it is small and very poorly built. the Navigation is very primitive, the sound system is bad and hard to use. it is like it was built by Ford of GM, I am so disappointed, because it looks decent, I thought that it would be like a mini 7 series, I really miss my 750Li.
I can not believe the difference in craftsmanship between the 7 series and the 5 series, it is night and day I can not believe that the same company built both cars.
Shame on BMW, I drove the E350 and the Lexus GS350 and they are way way better. I give the 530i a 5 out of 10, where the Lexus GS350 gets a 9 and the E350 gets an 8. and the big Acura gets a 9 the Audi A6 gets a 10

Can someone here tell me why anyone would spend so much money on this car when there are much better alternatives that cost less?

i don't think you are being fair here. You went from a luxobarge to a beginner 5er. There will be obvious differences in amenities. Also, the Nav System in the E60 is in fact a better/more advance system than the DVD High system offered on the E65.

I gotta get outta here before it gets too nasty here. Good Luck buddy, you are chumn bait in a shark tank

- the 530i has an IN-LINE 6. Enough said...

I can't vouch for the 2004, but my brand new 2006 530xi is nothing like your description. I had a 2003 E320 right before this, and I went through quite a few test drives (Mercedes, Lexus & BMW) before choosing the 530 (would never consider an Audi - IMHO the styling is just not there) – to me it was the hands down winner in every category. The 255 hp and 220 lb ft torque are great – the size is slightly larger overall than the E320 (some of the interior dimensions are a shade smaller, but nothing noticeable), the Logic7 sound system is awesome, the nav works great and the fit and finish are first class – well worth my money and quite a head-turner too! Overall, folks who have driven in the car have said point blank that they love it compared to the E320. In any case, everyone is entitled to their opinion – that’s why they make so many different models!!

Also, I never judge a car by the loaner I get - folks run them into the ground on "test drives" - so a two year old loaner car is probably not indicative of how a well maintained 5 Series would perform.

I understand what you are saying, and all I have to say is that I expected the 5 series to be like a small 7 series, not like a big 3 series.
The price of this car is outrageouse $52,520 this car is definitely not worth the money, I would rather drive an A6 any day. it is roomier, more elegant , more comfortable, better looking and much better equipped for less money.

The only positive is see in this $52,520 car is decent handling.
I have a bad lower back and I just can not sit in this car. My Wifes $39,500 2005 Toyota Sienna has much better seats and rides much smoother, less wind noise and is much better equipped.

I do not mean to offend anyone here, I am just shocked from disappointment, I always thought that the 5 was much better, perhaps the 550i is more comfortable, but the 530i should not be sold this way. BMW would lose a lot of clients if they do not exceed the competition in this price range

I sure hope so, I will make it a point to test drive a 2006 550i fully loaded to get the bad taste out of my system. This car has only 12,500 miles... it is fairly new and I was embarrased to pick up my parents in law with it, they suffered quietly in the rear seats
