 Optional warranty on E-60

I just paid for 530i. My dealer is offering an extended BMW maintenance package for 100K or 6 years for $ 1695. This package includes regular maintenance includring brake pads and rotors.

Has any one take this package? I would like your opionon from the point of value for money.

Thank you

Personally, I would get an extended warranty, but not an extended maintenance package. Also, do you need to decide now? Can you not wait to see if you are going to keep the car, and then buy it prior to the factory warranty expiring?

I would be more receptive to a BMW extended warranty than one from an aftermarket warranty company (not sure if they will be around in four years).

I wouldn't own a BMW without warranty coverage, but I'm not sure about the extended maintenance. In any case, you don't have to make that decision at this time. I believe you can buy it anytime up until the original package expires.

In addition, the price of the extended coverages is negotiable and you don't have to buy it where you bought the car or where you plan to have it serviced. I've seen specials offered in the "Ask-a-Dealer" and "Site Sponsor" sections of this board.

I would definitely advise you to stay away from third party packages. If they go out of business as one of the biggest did just a couple of months ago, you'll likely be out all of the money you spent for it.

my dealer wanted 3786 for the extended warranty after reducing from $4,876 and $1795 for the maintenance upgrade. The finance person seemed anoyed that i would not buy anything did'nt even try to match or beat the financing that i had.

The one option that i really like was the gap insurance. You pay $799 and the insurance will pay up to $1000 of the deductable in the event of a total loss. Vehicle tire and wheel insurance was $809, i figure i will take my chances.

Wow, that sounds awfully high for the extended coverages. Also, my son bought the wheel & tire package for $395 although it was on a CPO and with non run-flats.

Why don't you post this on the Ask-A-Dealer forum and ask about the cost? I just don't ever remember seeing anybody referring to prices like that for extended warranties.

The way I look at it, I don't want anyone but the dealer working on my car.

In 02 the warranty upgrade was 50k mi which I took just for the brakes.

I have an 02 530iA. Warranty expires and I take it to a friends, brothers shop who does all of his work (528iA). I pick it up from service and the vibration is killing me. I see the fan shroud is broken and go back the same day. They immediatly see that a fan blade has broken off (BMW told me that if you lean on the shroud while it's running they will hit). I take it to a repair shop that the body shop recommends and they fix the shroud and fan. Next week it overheats, take it back to shop 2 and it needs a new fan clutch (because of the unbalancing) and we put on a new thermostat just in case. But originally he tells me "if it got too hot the head might have warpped". After everything about $2500.

When we got the e90 for my wife they offered the 50k upgrade to 100k and I JUMPED on it. If you are keeping the car for those miles I say get it.

Also, think of the loaner and the experience of the techs working on BMW and only BMW.
