Cip 22
Just brought back my 545i from having the aux input and sirius installed. I had requested the software be updated to CIP 20 (latest to my knowledge) but the SA wouldn't do it citing too many complaints / problems with Version 20 and stated that CIP 22 was coming in early March.
"Coding, Individualization, Personalization" was not performed, but having Sat installed did change a few things. My car is a 9/04 build as a MY2005 car so I would guess that it is one of the earlier model 545i's that came out, so anyone with a build date near or before mine might be interested in the following.
Whatever was 'tweaked' outside of the full CIP update fixed the blasted radio. Now it stays off if it was off when I turned the car off. No more coming on all by itself.
"Perspective" view was added to the navigation and RDS support was enabled for FM radio stations.
Any 'engine management software' I couldn't comment on and any I felt would probably be the placebo effect. 'My' BMW is a 330xi, the 5 is my mom's, so driving to and from the dealership with roughly 100hp more would obviously taint my view. The same goes for any change in the steering tightness.
I checked the bimmerfest archives of where the Aux input jack 'should be' and I don't see it there. Just for the sake of being an anonymous idiot online, is there anywhere else the dealer might have installed the input jack? Or does the fact that only "FM AM WB CD SAT" show up in entertainment options for the I-drive mean they only installed Sat and misunderstood my request for the Aux Input too.
Oh, and no-go on any MP3 functionality with the in-dash CD player. I tested it when I got back home and it didn't even recognize a CD was in the bay. I wasn't expecting anything since the CIP was not updated, but I thought I'd give it a try. The Upside is that the disc came out when I pushed eject. Prior to today'service, when I tested to see if if 'might' have mp3 functionality, it wouldn't give me the disc back! I had to hold the eject button down as I turned the key before it would give me the disc. Also the 'lawyer' screen is still persistant and doesn't go away until I hit the i-drive button.
I'm headed out to the garage now to crawl around and look for the Aux jack again. I searched to figure out how to find the current CIP version installed but didn't hit anything. Some direction on this?

The car must be told that AUX In is available via software update. Given that it does not come up in the entertainment menu as an option, it is clear that the dealer did not activate the AUX In operation although they may have installed the jack in a secret location!

I checked the work order and it shows the request for Sat/Aux input but I was only charged for the Sat part. No mention of Aux input adapter in the billing section
Just like the standard Nav unit in the E46 was compatible with Aux in, but no matter how many times you hit the Mode button, Aux would not show unless the adapter was actually in the plug. I was hoping for the same in the E60, that the support for the Aux was there, but until the harness was plugged in it won't show it on the source options.
Cart before the Horse so to speak. Get the coding done before the harness instead of afterwards. As Me530 said, I def got some version of the CIP update. There are too many changes to not have had one. I just don't know how to bring up the version number (is that even possible like the MKIV system?)
Is there any how-to guide for DIY on the E60 aux in? With no bently service manual out yet for the E60, I guess I'd be the pioneer for this. The user Steam re-routed his connector to the arm-rest, but his dealer installed the base Aux in, other than that, search did not yield any promising posts other than the barebones PDF file.
