Does anyone know if this is true, the VDC does not install the kit, it has to go out to a private body shop for the work? I called BMW and thats what I was told. That does not make sense since they have there own body shop!

Seen a couple of 55o's around Boston and it is oh, so sweeeet.
BTW on the BMW Canada site you can build a 530xiT with the AMG Sport kit - not just the body pieces but killer wheels as well. Wish BMWUSA would let us have it!

I took the Dingolfing factory tour a couple of weeks ago. On the same line that was building US-bound E60's, were non-US-bound E60's getting the M-Aero kit from the get-go. It was essentially no extra labor for them to build it with or without the M-Aero kit. (A very impressive ability to custom build cars on the assembly line). The fact that US cars have to have it done after the fact - and to thus throw-away the "standard" bumpers is ... let me be polite ... lame. I saw many many E60's & E61's with the M-aero kit on the road in Munich & environs. I've chosen not to get it - even though I really like it - for 2 reasons. 1) It's done after the fact, and not at the factory and 2) It cannot be "residualized" into the lease.
The M-aero kit wasn't the only thing that BMW NA is keeping us from having - and that I saw being built into cars with ease ... but I won't go through that exercise in frustration right now. Ok - I will mention the anthracite headliner that I had to pay $500 extra for ... I saw the headliners being installed ... there were 2 piles - regular, and anthracite. Difference in assembly process: The worker picks the headliner from Pile A instead of Pile B. It should be a no-charge option. And then of course there's the "no 130i for the US market" silliness. I said I wouldn't go through the frustration exercise didn't I ...
The only good thing we (in the US) get from the restricted options list is lower prices ... which isn't entirely a bad thing.
