Newbie Buying Help--06 525i or 06 530i: 525i $4500 Less

Hi, this is my first post. This seems like a great forum. I have read through the various posts, especially the 525i power thread. Oddly enough, I have found two cars, one is a 525i, the other is a 530i, with the options I want, which are automatic, sport, premium, and navigation, and xeons on the 525i, they are standard on the 530i. Now, I am getting both cars for $xxx over invoice, which is fine by me. I think it is fair. The difference in price between the two is $4500, when taxes are included, with the 525i being less costly. Again, same color combination, same options.

What do you guys think? I am really torn between the two. I have also considered waiting for the 07, but I am not sure if it would make that big a difference, considering these are the options I would order on a 07. So, any suggestions?

I had the same dillema when choosing my 525i.

At the end of the day, I do mainly city driving, and whilst the 525i is occasionally sluggish when trying to accelarate on an uphill slope on a freeway, there's nothing that cant be accomplished by putting the foot down.

My theory - i'd rather keep the $4500. (my difference was A$9,000)

I agree - it all depends on the type of driving you do - for some folks the difference isn't meaningful at all. When I test drove the 525xi I thought it was fine - only after directly comparing it to the 530xi did I notice a difference. I went back and forth a lot in this - and in the end decided that I would go for the extra power and get the 530xi (plus I was pushed a little into the decision by the fact that there was a car right on the lot that had everything I wanted and was a 530xi - if it had been a 525xi I might have gone for that as well!).

Either way you can't go wrong - just make sure you get the car you want!

If money was no object, we'd all have M5's. So you have to decide for yourself- is it worth $4500 for the extra performance of the 530 vs. the 525?
