ADVICE PLEASE: Driver seat outboard trim

Cheers,

Scenario:

After replacing driver seat bottom due to "popping" noise, dealer can't get seat trim over seat rails and around memory buttons to stay attached. Been back (4) times in 3 weeks to correct...

Car presently at (nameless) dealer in CA until 2/16 waiting the arrival of new trim peices. At first "old" trim peices from original seat were used - looked fine but would pop off if seat was moved. After 2 attempts to correct told "new" trim peices (i.e. new design) were needed since seat was an "updated" design - new trim looked completely different than passanger seat but I was willing to live with it. 24hrs later "new" design trim peices pop off.

Anyhoo, The dealer is being EXTREMELY nice and has even compensated me for the $200 in fuel, 400 extra miles I put on the car going back and the day of work I've missed.... HOWEVER,.... my confidence in their quality control is fading quickly.... How can something so simple be so hard for their technicians to fix?

The latest word is the dealer is taking the car to a vinyl/car interior shop when the parts arrive. The hope is since they are "experts" in car interiors they will be able to correct the issue....

My main concern is MAYBE the "old" trim peices (that match the passenger seat) actually work but the (nameless) dealer simply didn't know how to install them correctly? What I want is the trim peices to be SECURELY mounted, but I'd like the driver seat to match the passenger as well.....

Since you seem to have a reasonable dealer, you may want to ask him to take the old seat trim to the other shop to see if they can install it correctly before they attempt to install the new trim. Its worth a shot and it really can't hurt anything.

I had the same thing done to my 545i. The new seat rail is different from the original and the outboard seat trim hits the extra metal that rises from the seat rail toward the back of the trim piece. The dealer tried to install the supposedly redesigned pieces and it still pops off when I lower the seat to the bottom. Now I just set the seat at the height just before the trim hits the seat rail.

I am also disappointed with BMW quality. What frustrated me the most is the knocking I hear under light load between 1500 - 2500 rpm and rough idle when A/C is on. Should not have to live with these issues on a 60K car.
