 A couple of E90 530i questions

Hi everyone my first post here.

I've been driving a 06' 530i for about 5 months now. Overall I love the car, and I'm probably one of the rare people who now love the design of it, both interior and exterior. And I'll admit that I rejected it when I first saw it also. Incidentally I still hate the new 3 and 7 stylings.

But anyway, overall I feel the car is a little sluggish and labours under acceleration. Maybe I have too high of an expectation of it? I've timed a few non-scientific and informal 0-60 (with as much as a launch as the auto would allow), and they came in at around 6.8 to 7.3, which to be is a little high and too much of a spread, even for a street start and the the non-rigorous nature of the testing. Is it possible that this particular car is tuned correctly.

Also, is it possible to turn the iDrive screen completely off, including the backlight? That's one of the annoying things I've found in the car. I like the display to disappear entirely at night but even when I select "Display Off", I still see the backlight glow. The other annoying thing is the driver's side armrest (the little piece that slides forwards) unlocks itself whenever the handbrake is engaged, and I have to push it forward again every time.

Wow, if you have an E90 530i you have a real collector's item!
Sorry, could not resist.

Ha! I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it. 6 and 9 are so similar... or maybe I should be checked for dyslexia.

Been driving ours for about the same amount of time and love ours as well.

I've never timed mine, but I like the quicks. It seems that the harder I drive it the quicker it gets. Of course a 550i wouldn't be bad though. Which tranny do you have?

I've never seen mine go completely off either. Maybe someone can weigh in on this?

This was bothering me too. For a long time I thought I had an intermittent problem with the latch on the armrest. Just in the past few days figured out it was associated with the handbrake myself. I'd like to know the reasoning behind this as well. Cheers

6.8-7.3 seems like a decent time and not too far off from BMW's estimates, which is 6.6 secs for the auto. BMW inline-6s tend to seem powerless if the driver comes from a V8 background. If you absolutely want to try to get BMW's times......

1) Did you turn DSC/DTC completely off? Hold the DTC button for 3-4 seconds to turn off both of them.

2)Sport mode tends to give the best accel results.
