I have a 2006 525i with automatic transmission.. So far the engine has self-accellerated 5 (five) times. It has done this when my husband experienced when pulling in a parking spot with hisa foot on the brake. The most recent event was when I stopped at a stop light, the egine reved to 4000 RPI when I had my foot firmly on the break - again nowhere near the accellerator. I have been to the dealer three times for this problem. They cannot duplicate the anomaly at these visits. FLoor mats are not at issue. This was happening before I put in mats. The problem is not worsened because of mats.
Is anyone else experiencing this situation? Please help.

One of the obvious...make sure there is nothing(carpet mat, rug, or any other object coming in contact with accellerator. If not, potential BIG problem

Thanks, the mats are not the problem. The car was self-accellerating prior to mats.
Any other thought would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, this hasn't happened to me. I've heard that this can happen when your foot is actually pushing down on both the brake and the gas at the same time, but I think this is unlikely the cause for you.

Have you looked carefully around the pedals and up under the dash with a flashlight? I've no clue what you might find but if the car has been to the dealer already, they might have checked this already. Otherwise, strange, strange, but scary problem!
