I have an 04' 530i. It has the Logic 7 Premium Sound and a 6-disc CD changer which are absolutely wonderful, but I'd love to have satellite radio. I contacted BMW directly with my VIN# etc. They said that my car was never 'prepped' for satellite radio when it was built in May of 04. Is there any way to still get it? Do I have any options or am I SOL? Any suggestions are appreciated. I have no preference when it comes to either Sirius or XM. Thanks. |

Try searching on this topic first...there are a few threads regarding this. BMW has a deal with Sirius only so that is your best bet most likely.

you are going to need to get, a after market set up.the satelilite radio reciever, will be an external unit. It's no big deal, people do it all the time,it just won't go thru your stereo reciever or your navagation.I have sirius radio,i like all the sport channels, and talk radio channels.I am bummed out because sirius lost, the fox news channel, its going to xm radio.

I have Sirius in my '05 530i and XM in my other car. Sirius has more music content (for me). The amount of Rock stations is great. Ken

I had XM in my 2002 E46 330cic (with Harman/Kardon) and I have Sirius in my current 2005 E60 545i (with Logic7). The L7 stereo is significantly better than the H/K - EXCEPT when I listen to Sirius! I was truly impressed with the sound quality of XM in my E46 but I have been disappointed in the sound of Sirius. Because the L7 is otherwise so superior to the H/K, I can only conclude that Sirius' signal quality is not as good (I've read elsewhere that the Sirius signal is "compressed" though I don't know what that means).

Another example of the quality difference is listening to the Fox News channel on XM and comparing it to the CNN channel on Sirius. I find the sound of the CNN channel totally annoying.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. If you go after market, then you can chose between XM and Sirius so you might want to look closely at channel line-ups, and try to do sound comparisons.

Thanks. | Since you'll have to go with an external receiver in either case, it all boils down to programming offered. Check both Sirius and XM websites and compare each side-by-side. I love baseball and the fact that XM carries all games was the deciding factor for me.
