I have a 2005 545 and every so often when my key is in my pocket and I bump into something my trunk will open. Sometimes I dont realize this until later. Any one else have this problem??
I could not find a way within the I drive to disable this feature on the key. Is this possible??
Do I have to take the key to the dealer?? (can the dealer do this??)
Any info would be appreciated

I had the same trouble with the keys when I first got the car...I figured out that I fiddle with the key too much when it's in my pocket or when I'm walking away from the car. Within the first two weeks after I got the car I had two incidents...once I went down to the parking garage and as I approached the car I noticed the windows were rolled down (it was freezing outside, so I know I didn't have them rolled down when I got out of the car!). The second was coming out of a restaurant...I looked across the parking lot and saw my car with the trunk wide open...couldn't figure it out at first, but then I thought I must be doing something with the keys. Then I noticed how much I handle them and push them around in my pocket when I'm fishing for change, etc. Since I realized that, I haven't had a problem...I'm just careful, especially walking away from the car.

Twice have I returned to my car to find the trunk open. It was really weird and I never found the cause of the problem. I just thought I must've hit the keys at some point, but it still bothers me that I never really know if my car trunk/windows are open or not.

I have just come back to a 535d M-sport touring after a couple of years with Audis and with the Audi key you have to hold the trunk release for 3 seconds, much better idea.
Also, I think the button for unlocking the car should be the bmw button as it is recessed, doesn't really matter if you accidently lock the car, but unlocking it can be a real problem.

Even after all the precautions I've taken (se above!), a co-worker stopped in my office yesterday and asked me if I knew my trunck was open! I can't understand why this happens - even now that I'm so careful about how I handle the keys. Is there something wrong with the key? It just seems weird that several people would have problems with it.
