If you offer to pay for a new 550i in Cash, would the dealership knock off the tax and/or offer to negotiate more?

i think any dealer would take off some when you show up with cash in hand for a car no matter what type of car it is

Do you mean green cash cash? If so... I don't know for sure, but my guess is anti-money laundering laws will see to it that you're not helped. Unless, that is, you find a crooked dealer. You should ask this in the "Ask A Dealer" section.

Yes, they get MORE money by you financing with BMW NA, or whatever rather than bringing cold cash. I worked at a dealer, know the inside story. Besides, who knows where that huge amount of cash came from, dealers dont want such deposits, its not a Bank!!
You get the idea.
P.S. In todays world, Cash is no longer King! (although sometimes it still is)

For the dealers or others that read this thread, please don't flame me too hard, but I think the dealerships are not too fond of people who pay with cash. They are not able to make extra money off you e.g. financing. My ex-girlfriend paid off her Honda Accord EX V6 ~$25K, if I recall, within a week of buying it from Pacific Honda in SD a few years back. She got no special treatment from them. You can always negotiate from invoice up. I'm sure there are dealerships that will do invoice + ($1000 - $1500)
