Door Locks Driving me Crazy
Tried to search out an answer, but wasn't able to find my specific issue. Here are 2 scenarios: 1) Hubby (with key) parks and leaves car. I hang back to gather up a few things. I have no key with me and I can't seem to find a way to lock the car. OR, 2) I have a carload of stuff, bring a bunch into the house along with my purse. Leave the purse inside. Again, problem locking the car manually. I tried the button in the center of the dash. I tried pushing down the buttons manually - driver door button wouldn't stay down ... I have comfort access, btw. Am I missing something, doing something wrong, or is this a problem with my particular car - or the ever-popular design flaw edit: 2006 530xiT ED built 9/05 | | Reply » Door Locks Driving me Crazy | Is it possible the comfort access thinks the key fob is still in the car and won't lock it for that reason?
| | Reply » Door Locks Driving me Crazy | Was the key nearby? As I understand it, comfort access requires the key to be closeby, be it in the pocket, or purse. You have to have the key on you, just don't have to push the actual key fob button to unlock/lock. Otherwise, anyone can lock the car. Nor does the key have to be in the slot to start, but somewhere in the car. Once started, you can drive off without key nearby, just that if you turn the engine off, it wont start again, unless it's within 10 seconds or something like that. Car doesn't let you lock from inside, safety issue regarding people getting locked inside the car?

But, I will double check it by looking at the dash. Usually, it will show a key with a slash through it when the key is taken outside the car.
Edit: Oh wait, the car is actually off - really off. As a side note - Even if it sensed the key, my understanding is that the car know whether the key is inside, or outside. This is supported by the fact that when hubby (driving) leaves the car running and steps out to say get the mail, the "removed key" symbol appears on the dash even though I have a key in my purse (on the passenger side).
Anyway, I had that problem when the car had been turned off, and the key was inside the house (car being outside in a parking area -not in a garage "inside" the house.

There are times that I am unloading the car, and my purse is in the house, but when I'm done I want to lock the car without having to get my key! I should be able to lock the car without the key by - it's always been that way.
