In the last few days, my '05 545i has begun to sound beeps that I cannot associate with anything. It usually occurs after I've been away from the car for a while, and then happens within the first few (1-3) minutes of driving. It's three short beeps followed by 1 long beep. It only occurs once per driving session. But not every time I start the car - just when I've been away for a while and return to start the car again. There is no readout on the dash or the idrive screen when the beeps occur.
Before anybody asks, I can tell you that it is not any of the following (because the beeps sound different)
- park distance control (PDC beeps are different & louder than this beep)
- seat belt (which is more of a chime than a beep)
- cold weather alert (which is more of a chime than a beep)
- other alarms or alerts that correlate with system messages. I've looked at the iDrive car info to check for alerts & all fluid levels, etc. are "OK". And I've pressed the "Check" button on the turn signal to check the systems and it reports back (on iDrive screen) that all systems checked out OK.
So now I'm stumped. I did a search here but could not find anything. Any ideas?

yea if its sounds like beep beep beep beeeeeeeep, its the hourly chime.
next time you hear this sound, check and see what time it shows in the screen. you can turn this function off if you need to

that must be it. I recall sitting at a rather slow red light the other day and was playing around in with some of the options in iDrive. I think I may have turned on the hourly chime to see what it does. I forgot all about it until your responses above.
But I must say - that's nothing like what I expected the hourly chime to sound like. It's strange that it only seemed to happen a few minutes after I get in the car. I never thought about it before, but it appears that my driving habit is to leave a few minutes before the hour!
