all wheel drive
Has anyone driven the new 530 ix (all wheel drive)? How does it differ from the 530i? Ourstar
| | Reply » all wheel drive | I currently drive a 2004 530i and my husband recently got the 2006 530xi. I find that the xi drives and handles just like my 530i. There really is no difference there. However, in bad conditions (i.e. snow, slush) the all wheel drive really works well. Since the i is RWD the back can kick out a bit. The xi just goes right through the slippery stuff pretty much effortlessly. Common sense driving is helpful of course with both vehicles. My husband always says that 'ice is the great equalizer'. Just because you have AWD doesn't mean that you can drive like you sometimes do on dry pavement. Hope this is helpful.

I just traded in my 1999 528i Sport (E39 body style) for a 2006 530xi. I miss my sport package, but not too much. I really like the way the xi handles. Also - I'm a Southerner living in Iowa right off the Mississippi. I have real hills to deal with that ice over after the snow is cleared. I really like what the xi has to offer in those circumstances.

Very strange. | I have an 07MY on order and when I called my dealer back in Germany, he told me the exact same thing. He said it has not been determined when the new prices will be released. However, he did send me the PDF file of the ne option for the 07MY but without prices.

However, with the last storm we had here in Boston I'm glad I got the xi - however if you read on here plenty of folks say that the 530i with snow tires is good in the snow as well - so it really just depends what conditions you think you'll be driving under.
As far as the MY07, I haven't yet seen any really noticable difference that would make me wait. That said, I still wonder about milage on an early production car. Someone on here (I think) said that they should judge mileage from build date, but I go about 15-18K a year, and I think I'd still get dinged if I bought an MY07 early in '06, and then proceeded to rack up the miles. At my pace, I'd go into 2007 with around 8-9K miles already on a car when the calendar year kicks in. I might be off base on this one, and it certainly doesn't matter if your leasing as long as you stay within the miles you have each year, but from a buying perspective and trade value I still wonder...
