 Horse Power Chips--Any good?

Are after market horse power chips any good? And if so how much of a difference do they make and how much do they cost?

Thanks

Shouldn't this be posted in the Equine Veterinary Section?

Seriously...do they even exist? I haven't ever seen a post about aftermarket chips in the E60. If they aren't made by DINAN or a BMW approved supplier be careful....they might blow your warranty.

There are several software upgrade vendors out there...most just upload programs to your ECU and they don't replace the chip. Most claim their upgrade is undetectable and reversable and price ranges from $400 to $1200+

Here are some vendors that have programs ready for the E60 (mostly 545s):
DMS, Wetteraur, H&S, Upsolute, Powerchips, Superchips, SpeedInnovation, Kelleners...

Gains are from around 20-30hp...

Dinan does not have programming available yet but they think it might be around Spring.

And as far as warranty, any of them will ruin your factory warranty if a dealer can prove that the modification directly lead to a malfunctioning part. I should also note that BMW doesn't warranty Dinan products....Dinan warranty their own products as well as consequential losses caused by their products but they match their warranty with BMW's mile to mile.

Personally, I was going to go with Upsolute because I heard some good write ups on the Porsche board but I've decided to get all Dinan products so I'm waiting.
