December '05 5 Series Sales Report

December sales of the 5 Series were up a very pleasing 25.0% when compared to December, 2004. YTD sales for all of 2005 were also up 15.7% from 2004.

By comparison, December sales of the Mercedes-Benz E Class were down 16.4% with sales of 6,334 units this month and 7,576 units last December. Sales of the MB E Class were down 14.5% for the year 2005.

Please note that I only report the United States sales data.

just lost my MB E-Class (New Shape) for BMW 5 Series in December 05, the E-Class was my fifth M-B and by far the most unreliable and the service & reaction from MB UK sucked.
No dout if other around the world had the same issues as I had over three year they too dumped M-B

I traded my '03 E320 for the 530xi in December and have no regrets! It was coming off warranty, and although I hadn't had a lot of problems like some other '03 owners , I didn't want to risk it. I could have gotten an new E350 4matic for a lot less money (the discounting, even here in the Boston area, was amazing), but felt it was time for a change and fell in love with the 530xi when I drove it. Still loving it - I know I made the right decision!!

Little bit o/t here, but Im curious; is the E class down slightly due to the CLS? Dont they compete in roughly the same price bracket?

The CLS500 MSRP starts at around $65K, versus $59K for the E500 and $51K for the E350, so not quite comparable. Plus, from my view they are totally different cars...not really quite sure where MB was aiming with the CLS. I didn't even consider the CLS when shopping this time around...nice interior, but the shape and size isn't right for me. It was either another E-class or something else...obviously went with the 530xi!

Im sure thats why MT called it the 'most pointless E class'. I really dont get that car either. And I definitely dont like the looks of it, but thats just me.
