RAZR coming soon to Verizon....is OBEX important?

After reading an article about the upcoming release of the RAZR V3c for Verizon... I've found where it says, "Regrettably the RAZR V3c does not support Bluetooth OBEX (Object Exchange) profiles." What exactly does this mean?

The article goes on to say, "... the V3c is not without some drawbacks, most noticeably the crippled Bluetooth"....

Verizon Wireless cripples all their Bluetooth phones to not use OBEX. This prevents you from copying things from the PC to the phone, and forces you to use their for-profit download service. VZ says that it is for fraud protection, but I see it as profit protection.

Its about damn time Verizon gets the RAZR.

I guess they gave up their requirements for an external antenna.

But this isnt good news:

Released for Verizon Wireless, the original Motorola user interface has been replaced with a preconfigured Verizon menu found on other devices in their network. Exhibiting a overly simplistic layout, the menu structure is fast responding, but leaves only the bare essentials in usability.

It also looks like this is a Digital only phone.

I know that the wireless carriers don't like to carry phones with analog capability as it uses so much spectrum when it activates, but digital only phones do not work well for people who dive in rural areas that still only have analog signals.

There are many stretches of I-81 in VA that have only analog signals for example.

It will be interesting to see the Verizon RAZR implemetation, especially in light of all the V710s that are going to be "retired".

I have a Verizon V710 and a Cingular RAZR. The RAZR seems to have a much better Bluetooth signal than the V710. The V710 has better voice commands.

I used to be able to transfer just about everything to and from the V710 through the transflash card, but the same firmware upgrade that made the phone work with my E60 crippled the ability to transfer ringtones.

The reason that Verizon did not get the Razor earlier is because the phone manufacturer cut a deal with GSM carriers so no CDMA carrier could get the phones until they were out for one year.

Similar to the push-to-talk deal Qualcomm did with Nextel.
