I just ordered my 2006 550i and I wanted to know if take the entire 6-7 weeks they say to get it delievered to the dealer?

you live on the west coast. Mine took 85 days (order to delivery). It was tough but oh so worth it to get just what I wanted.

I live on the east coast and it took about 7 weeks total for me to get my 530Xi. It arrived at the dealer on 1/4.

Could take longer. It depends on when you ordered the car, and what week the production slot is. Ask for a copy of the vehicle status report, which will show the planned production week.
Dealers get their allocations at the end of the month, for month +2 production. So if, for example, you place an order in late December right after the dealer receives their February allocation, and assuming you get the last month of February production, including transportation to the west coast (about a month on the boat), time at the VPC and to the dealer, you could be looking at late March or early April delivery--so it could be 12+ weeks.
